After many years of including emergency communications as one of many competing interests, in 2010 the Newport County Radio Club created a public service arm, the Newport County Auxiliary Communications Service. This focused team uses the more inclusive term "auxiliary communications" to better describe what has always been an important radio club function, namely supporting our communities by using our communications skills on any authorized radio frequencies and transmission modes.
We are just as likely to use commercial, military, and public safety frequencies as we are ham bands. We are still proud members of the Newport County Radio Club and are not changing our organizational structure; we are merely acknowledging the new focus on emergency communications and our ability to use a broader set of communication tools.
